OPAR Assemblyman, Billy Sujang, appealed to the Sarawak Ministry of Utilities and Telecommunications and Sarawak Energy Bhd to expedite the approval process and implementation of this ALAF scheme in the rural areas, especially in his constituency.

He said a total of 102 applications from the residents in Lundu have yet to received any heads-up regarding the approval status of the Additional and Late Applicant Fund (ALAF) Scheme as of May 2025.

The scheme worries the people, especially when many new houses have been built due to the increase in population and new settlement areas.

“The people still do not enjoy proper electricity supply, instead they have to rely on their own power generators which are more expensive and not environmentally friendly,” he said.

He said this when debating on the motion in appreciation of TYT’s speech.

The appeal that he made is to prioritise the rights of the people in the area.

“It is to ensure that the basic right of the people to enjoy electricity supply is achieved,” he said.

The immediate implementation of the scheme will not only enhance the quality of life of the people, but also support the socioeconomic development in rural areas.

“A stable and continuous supply of electricity is the foundation of entrepreneurial activities, education, security and human capital development.

“Therefore, I hope that this matter will be given due priority,” he said.
