MIRI: Traffic police have issued a total of 36 summonses and seized nine motorcycles during an integrated ‘Op Samseng Jalanan’ here over the weekend.
Miri police chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah said the operation, which took place from around 11pm on June 21 until 3am the following morning, was conducted across the city and along Jalan Miri Bypass.
During the operation, the team inspected 28 men, aged between 16 and 22, and issued 36 summonses for various traffic offences
“Among them include expired road tax, driving without a licence, illegal structural modifications, modified exhaust systems, absence of side mirrors, missing or fancy license plates and faulty brakes.

“In addition, nine motorcycles were confiscated under Section 60 of the Road Transport Act 1987 for documentation purposes,” he said.
Mohd Farhan urged members of the public with information on illegal activities to contact Miri police operations room at 085-432222 or the nearest police station.
He assured that similar operations would be conducted regularly, especially targeting motorcyclists.
“Motorists are reminded to ride and drive responsible, avoid engaging in unlawful street activities, modifying their vehicles, and not loiter by the roadside in a manner that causes traffic congestion or noise disturbances,” he said.
He also warned that reckless driving or riding endangers not only the individual but also other road users.
