PADAWAN: Five bite cases were reported last night around the 7th Mile area by the Padawan Municipal Council’s (MPP) stray dog catching team.

According to MPP chairman Tan Kai, four of the cases occurred near the 7th Mile Commercial Centre while the location of the fifth case is still unknown.

“After receiving the news around 8pm last night, I immediately informed our stray dog catching unit to round up the stray dogs which caused the issue.”

“Furthermore, two of the victims were able to identify one of the strays which bit them through the photos we sent to the hospital they were in.

“Later today, we will resume our operation to round up the remaining stray dogs around the 7th Mile area,” he said when asked by the media at the MPP open house event on Monday (April 29).

Besides that, Tan Kai also mentioned that from April 29 until May 3, operations will be carried out in four rabies hot spots in the Kuching area, namely Taman Landeh, Tabuan Jaya, Desa Wira, and Sungai Maong Tengah.

“Our council will be joining the operation, so we have to spread our manpower not only to aid the state-level operation, but also help the locals in the Padawan area.

“I would like to request that pet owners get their license and vaccinate their dogs at the nearby veterinary office.

“I would not want pet owners to be caught without a license and not vaccinating their pets because the owners would need to pay a fine while their pets would potentially be sent to the compound.”
