BARAM: A local bulldozer operator was killed after he was thrown from the machine and subsequently run over during a workplace accident here.
The Sarawak Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) said the incident occurred at about 10:30 am on Sept. 13 while the victim was levelling a mound of soil.
Preliminary investigations found that the bulldozer went out of control while the victim was carrying out the work.
“The victim was thrown from the cabin and subsequently run over by the bulldozer. He was extricated with the assistance of the Marudi Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) but was pronounced dead at the scene,” it said in a statement.
The victim’s body was later taken to Marudi Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
Following the incident, Sarawak DOSH issued four prohibition notices to the employer, requiring related work to cease until appropriate control measures are implemented.
The department warned that legal action could be taken against employers who fail to comply with provisions under the Occupational Safety and Health Act 1994 (Act 514).
