SARATOK: A police raid under ‘Ops Dadu’ has dealt a blow to illegal gambling activities here, with two men arrested by the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) yesterday (Oct 26).

Saratok police chief DSP Mathew Manggie said both suspects, aged 30 and 52, were caught allegedly operating illegal lottery sales at separate locations.

“Preliminary checks found that the 30-year-old suspect has two prior criminal records, while the older suspect has one.

“Also confiscated from them were two phones, a black box, several pieces of paper containing suspected illegal lottery numbers, and cash totalling RM390,” he said, adding that both men tested negative for drugs.

Mathew said the case is being investigated under Section 4A(a) of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953.

Since the operation commenced, Saratok CID has inspected a total of 17 premises around the district and uncovered illegal gambling or lottery ticket sales activities at nine of them.

“All nine premises are being investigated under Section 21A of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953.

“In the same period, nine locals have been arrested and charged in court under Section 4A(a) of the same Act,” he said.
