SERIAN: Four individuals were arrested over two days in two separate operations under ‘Ops Limau’ for allegedly conducting online gambling activities at public premises here.
Serian district police chief, Supt Freddy Bian Stanislaus Bian, said that on Feb 15 at about 2.30 pm, officers from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the district police headquarters (IPD) detained three local men after checks at a premises in Serian.
He said the suspects were believed to be involved in online gambling activities, and several items were seized to assist investigations.
“The case is being investigated under Section 7(2) of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953, which provides a fine of up to RM5,000, imprisonment of up to six months, or both upon conviction,” he said in a statement.
In a separate operation on Feb 16 at about 4.20 pm, CID officers arrested a local woman at another premises in Serian for similar activities.
Freddy said her case is being investigated under Section 4B(a) of the same Act, which carries a heavier penalty of up to RM100,000 fine, imprisonment of up to five years, or both upon conviction.
He advised the public not to be involved in illegal gambling and welcomed information related to such activities to assist police investigations.
