ALOR SETAR: The Kedah Immigration Department (JIM) detained 104 foreigners in OPS SAPU carried out at a construction site in Pantai Tengah, Langkawi, on Tuesday.
The department in a statement announced that the operation carried out by the Immigration Action Unit began at 3.15 pm and involved 15 officers.
“The team inspected 129 people consisting of eight Malaysians, 100 Bangladeshis, two Myanmar nationals and 19 Indonesians.
“As a result of the inspection, a total of 104 male foreign immigrants were detained, consisting of 91 Bangladeshis and 13 Indonesians. All those detained are between 22 and 57 years old,” the statement said, today.
Kedah JIM said all those detained were suspected of committing offences under Section 6(1)(c), Section 15(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 (Act 155) and Regulation 39(b) of the Immigration Regulations 1963.
“An IMM.29 Form (Summon to Witness) was also issued during the inspection. All foreigners detained were taken to the Belantik Immigration Depot, Sik for further action and investigation.
“Enforcement operations will continue to be carried out continuously without any compromise to combat the presence of foreigners in the state. Strict action will also be taken against any employer or individual found to be employing, protecting or providing protection to foreigners who violate Immigration laws,” he said.
