BAU: A narcotics operation in Kampung Lidah Tanah yesterday (Jan 12), led to the arrest of three local men over the possession of suspected drugs and substance abuse.
Codenamed ‘Ops Tapis’, the operation was conducted by the Narcotics Crime Investigation Division (NCID) between 11 am and 5 pm following public tip-offs and gathered intelligence.
Bau police chief Supt Mohd Haide A. Rahman said one of the suspects – an 18-year-old – was found in possession of half a pill believed to be Erimin 5, weighing 0.20g.
“Background checks found that he has no prior record and tested negative for drugs.
“He is being remanded to facilitate investigations under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for possession of drugs,” he said.
Meanwhile, the other two suspects, aged 26 and 39, were detained and investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for substance abuse.
He added that their urine tests carried out at Bau NCID office returned positive for methamphetamine and amphetamine.
“Both suspects, who have no prior records, admitted that they had last abused syabu a day before their arrest,” he said.
In light of this, Mohd Haide urged the public to provide any information on drug-related activities to Bukit Aman NCID at 012-2087222 or Sarawak NCID at 017-5929211.
