KUALA LUMPUR: National silat athlete, Ummi Mashitah Hassan, admits she is feeling some pressure ahead of her debut at the 2025 SEA Games in Thailand.

However, she remains optimistic about her mission to win a gold medal and secure a podium finish for Malaysia.

“This is my first SEA Games. Of course, there’s pressure because I’ve never experienced a stage like this. I have to adapt to performing on a bigger platform,” she said.

Ummi also called on Sarawakians to continue supporting her throughout the competition.

“I promise I won’t disappoint the people of Sarawak. To my family and teachers, pray for me – I will give my best,” she added.

She was met after the 33rd SEA Games and 13th ASEAN Para Games Thailand 2025 Jalur Gemilang Handover Ceremony at MSN Bukit Jalil on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, silat coach, Siti Rahmah Mohamed Nasir, said the athlete’s mentality and confidence will be the main determinants of success at the SEA Games.

“All competitors are strong and have trained hard. But what sets us apart is our mentality – how we enter with confidence and the spirit of carrying the Malaysian flag. That is the most important, so always believe in yourself,” she said. – TVS
