GERIK: Over 300 members of the Orang Asli community in Kampung Sungai Urat now have access to clean water and health services, thanks to a collaborative initiative by Sime Darby Auto ConneXion-Ford (SDAC-Ford) and MyFundAction.

The USD10,000 project, funded by Ford Philanthropy (charitable arm of Ford Motor Company), includes installing a sustainable water tank system and infrastructure, providing the community with its first reliable source of clean water.

MyFundAction chief executive officer Ghafur Rahim Mustakim said that access to clean water is a vital step towards improving health and quality of life.

“We are grateful to Auto ConneXion for their invaluable support in realising this impactful collaboration. This initiative not only addresses the fundamental needs of underserved communities but also serves as a platform for youth development,” he said.

SDAC-Ford managing director Turse Zuhair echoed similar sentiments.

“We are deeply committed to making a meaningful impact in the communities we serve. By providing access to clean water and essential health services, we aim to uplift underserved communities and foster resilience for sustainable growth,” he said.

On Nov 23, a team of 30 Auto ConneXion staff volunteers joined forces with MyFundAction to complete the water tank system using a deep boring technique that taps into underground water sources.

The method ensures a sustainable and safe water supply by accessing deep, clean groundwater. It is also economically efficient over time and benefits agriculture and industry by providing a steady water supply.

By combining boring techniques with sustainable management practices, it is possible to create a resilient and safe water supply system that supports long-term community and environmental needs.

In addition to building the water system, the volunteers helped conduct health screenings and organised interactive activities promoting health and hygiene. These efforts aim to instil lifelong habits for improved well-being, particularly among children in the community.

MyFundAction, a youth-led international non-governmental organisation (NGO), is renowned for sustainable development programmes that address critical needs, including healthcare, education and infrastructure.

This collaboration aligns with Ford Philanthropy’s mission to empower communities and drive social progress.
