SIBU: Numerous organisations have stepped forward to distribute aid to 18 individuals affected by the recent fire incident in Kampung Nangka here.

Cash and food assistance that were sourced from the Nangka Constituency Service Centre, Social Welfare Department, Sibu Islamic Welfare Trust Board (Lakis), Sarawak United National Youth Organisation (Saberkas) Nangka Branch were presented by Deputy Minister for Education, Innovation and Talent Development, Datuk Dr Annuar Rapa’ee on Monday (Sept 25).

Dr Annuar also announced six months of housing rental assistance for the affected families.

“Further action will be taken, including discussions with relevant agencies to construct new houses for the victims at the same location,” said the Nangka assemblyman.

At the same time, he hoped that the provided assistance can alleviate the burden faced by the victims.

“I also want to thank all who have contributed assistance, regardless of their race and religious background.”

On another note, Dr Annuar called on the community to exercise greater vigilance, especially during the current dry and hot weather.

During the Sept 23 fire incident, 18 people from three families were made homeless after a morning blaze laid waste to three houses in Kampung Nangka.

No injuries or casualties were reported in the incident as they managed to get to safety.
