KUCHING: Sarawak took another step in expanding the commercial value of its water resources with the launch of Sarawak Water’s first premium bottled water brand, Orkid, which will be served on AirBorneo flights.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said the introduction of Orkid would give AirBorneo a unique identity by offering passengers bottled water sourced from Sarawak.

“Earlier today, I had the honour of launching Sarawak Water new bottled water brand, Orkid. This water will be served on AirBorneo flights under the Orkid brand, making our airline different from others because it will offer original water from Sarawak,” he said.

He said this in a press conference after launching the Borneo International Water & Wastewater Exhibition and Conference (BIWWEC) 2026 at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) here today.

He also noted that water plays a key role in Sarawak’s hydrogen economy and said technological advances would enable the state to create more value-added products from its water resources.

The Orkid bottled water brand was unveiled during the BIWWEC 2026, marking a significant milestone in Sarawak Water transformation into a financially sustainable and future-ready water utility.

The unveiling of Orkid reflects Sarawak Water’s ambition to demonstrate how a modern public utility can innovate, diversify and create sustainable value while remaining true to its public service mission.

Sarawak Water in its statement said the Orkid brand was inspired by the late Puan Sri Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tun Tuanku Bujang’s admiration for orchids, which symbolise elegance, resilience and quiet beauty – values the utility aims to embody in serving its consumers.

The premium bottled water is the first initiative under Sarawak Water’s commercial growth strategy as the organisation seeks to diversify into complementary businesses, generate long-term value and strengthen its capacity to reinvest in improving water services across Sarawak.

The product is currently in the final stages of production and is expected to be commercially available from October 2026.
