KUCHING: The loss of parents at a young age is a devastating reality that some children face, leaving them vulnerable and searching for stability.

For two orphaned sisters, Rachel, 15, and Rachel, 12, life took a tragic turn when they lost their father in 2015, their mother in 2017, and later, their grandparents who had been their guardians.

Despite these hardships, their story has taken a hopeful turn thanks to the compassion of their 62-year-old great-aunt, Ruba Sandri, and the support of a local charity organisation, Hope Place Kuching.

Ruba, who lives in Kampung Tabuan Jaya Tengah with her husband, adult children, and grandchildren, stepped in to care for Rachel and Rowena after the passing of their grandfather in 2023.

With no steady income, Ruba and her husband have been doing their best to provide a stable home for the sisters.

“Despite our struggles, we do everything we can to ensure the girls stay in school and have what they need to succeed,” said Ruba.

The family faces financial constraints, relying on a RM500 monthly Social Security Organisation (Socso) allowance left by the sisters’ late mother.

Recognising their plight, Hope Place Kuching has stepped in to provide essential food supplies and school materials to ease their burden.

Hope Place, also known as Persatuan Kebajikan Harapan Kuching (PKHK), is a non-profit organisation committed to assist underprivileged families across Kuching.

The organisation welcomes donations to sustain its work in helping families like Ruba’s.

Those wishing to contribute can reach Hope Place at 082-505987 or 013-5672775.

Donations can be made to their Maybank account (MBB: 511289001160), with official receipts issued upon request. Supporters can also visit their Facebook page for their Sarawak Pay/S PAY GLOBAL QR code.
