SIBU: Outgoing Consul General of the Republic of Indonesia in Kuching Raden Sigit Witjaksono has called for sustained collaboration between Sarawak and Indonesia, urging that ongoing efforts be carried forward even after his departure.

Reflecting on his three-year tenure in Sarawak, Raden said he had witnessed notable progress in strengthening ties between the two neighbours, particularly in the areas of economy, social affairs, culture, education, healthcare, tourism, transport connectivity, and infrastructure.

“I hope that the efforts made over the past three years will not end here but continue.

“This is just the beginning. There is still much to be done. I will advise my successor to follow up on these initiatives for the benefit of Sarawak, Indonesia, and the whole of Borneo,” he said.

Raden made the remarks at an appreciation dinner held last night (Apr 27) at a prominent hotel here, marking the conclusion of his term as consul general.

About 180 guests attended the dinner, including staff and students from University of Technology Sarawak (UTS), and representatives from Jaya Tiasa Holdings Bhd, Rimbunan Sawit Bhd, Mafrica Group of Companies, Ta Ann Plywood Sdn Bhd, Sibu Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCCI), Subur Tiasa Holdings Bhd, among others.

Speaking fondly of Sibu, Raden described the town as his “second home”, recalling the strong collaborations forged, especially through the Borneo Cultural Festival (BCF), where Indonesian dancers were invited to showcase their rich cultural heritage.

“I sincerely appreciate all the support extended to me and the consulate. I encourage everyone not to stop here; we must continue moving forward. This is what I emphasise, and I expect the same spirit from my colleagues at the consulate.

“Sibu will always remain in the hearts of my wife, Lucy Octivia Witjaksono, and myself. If we have the chance, we will surely visit our second home,” he added.

Raden will officially end his tenure on Apr 30 and is scheduled to return to Indonesia on May 1.

Among those present at the dinner were Rimbunan Hijau Group managing director Datuk Tiong Thai King and UTS vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Khairuddin Abdul Hamid.
