Outgoing US envoy calls on Wan Junaidi

KUCHING: Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and his wife Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi today received a farewell courtesy call from the United States Ambassador to Malaysia, Edgard D Kagan, at Kasuma Resort, Petra Jaya.

The meeting was also attended by US Embassy spokesperson James Dewey and Sarawak Regional Office director at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Datuk Fenny Nuli.

During the meeting, Wan Junaidi and Kagan discussed a range of strategic initiatives of mutual interest, including the green economy and renewable energy sectors, in line with Sarawak’s emergence as a clean energy hub in Southeast Asia.

Kagan expressed his admiration for Sarawak’s political stability as well as the state’s comprehensive development progress under the leadership of Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

He also conveyed the commitment of the United States Embassy to continue serving as a strategic partner in supporting Sarawak’s aspirations to achieve developed state status.

Kagan recorded his appreciation to Wan Junaidi for the close cooperation, openness and generosity in sharing advice and views throughout their acquaintance and diplomatic engagement.

Wan Junaidi, meanwhile, expressed hope that diplomatic and economic relations between the United States and Malaysia, particularly with Sarawak, would continue to be strengthened, with a focus on the state’s ongoing rapid and sustainable development efforts.
