SIMUNJAN: Over 1,000 new native tree seedlings were planted at the Sabal Forest Reserve today through a joint initiative by the Forest Department Sarawak (FDS), the Land and Survey Department Sarawak and the Malaysian Red Crescent (MRC) Stampin Branch.
The tree planting programme also saw the participation of members from the Malaysian Institute of Planners (MIP) and over 200 community members.
Deputy Director of Forests (Forest Conservation and Development) Happysupina Sait said the programme is more than just planting trees.
“The programme represents an ongoing commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainability. It stands as a testament to the power of collective action and the vital role each individual plays in safeguarding the future of the planet,” he said in his speech.
A total of 1,004 seedlings of high-value native species, including belian, selangan and meranti, were planted during the event.
The initiative highlights joint commitment between government agencies, civil society groups and the public in conserving Sarawak’s forest heritage for future generations.
