KUCHING: More than 1,200 participants took part in the eighth edition of the Ora Et Labora Run 2025 held at St Joseph’s Family of Schools last Saturday (Oct 4), celebrating the enduring Josephian spirit under the theme “Back to School!”

Flagged off by Old Josephians’ Association (OJA) president and Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian, the charity run aimed to raise funds for students’ extracurricular activities while strengthening camaraderie among alumni, students and the community.

Participants competed in the 1.4km Walk, 5km Fun Run, and 10km Competitive Run, which featured men’s and women’s open categories.

Dr Sim also commended the collaboration between St Joseph’s three institutions — SMK St Joseph (1882), St Joseph’s Private School (2012), and St Joseph’s International School (2017).

“Once a year, the entire Josephian family; public, private, and international – runs together, raises funds together, and strengthens the spirit of Ora Et Labora,” he said.

He added that St Joseph’s remains the only family of schools in Sarawak offering public, private, and international education under one heritage – a model that continues to inspire unity and pride.

The event also featured the Back to School Games a day earlier, further promoting friendship across generations of Josephians.

OJA expressed appreciation to its sponsors, including Sarawak Energy Berhad (Main Sponsor); Petroleum Sarawak Berhad and Solarvest Borneo Sdn Bhd (Platinum Sponsors); Linde EOX Sdn Bhd and Resources Surveys Services Sdn Bhd (Gold Sponsors); and Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC), SmartGen Energy and China Energy International Group (Silver Sponsors).

Among those present were Kuching South City Council (MBKS) mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng, Archbishop of the Kuching Archdiocese Datuk Dr Simon Poh, and St Joseph’s School Board chairman Father Felix Au.
