KUCHING: Over 150 participants worked together to clean up Tupong Tengah Village, collecting a total of 248.95 kilogrammes of waste during the 2026 Major Gotong-Royong Programme held today (Feb 14).
The programme, which began around 7 am at the village community hall grounds, involved various parties, including the Kuching North City Commission (DBKU), students from i-CATS University College, pupils from Sekolah Rendah Kebangsaan Rakyat Tupong, and the local community.
Activities included cleaning residential areas and drains, as well as collecting recyclable waste to ensure a cleaner and healthier environment.
The programme was officiated by Tupong state assemblyman, Datuk Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman, who also joined participants in picking up trash.
Also present were DBKU director, Ramzi Abdilah, and Mayor Datuk Hilmy Otman.
In addition to the cleaning activities, the programme featured aerobics sessions, prize-giving for participants who collected the most trash, and lucky draws.
To foster cleanliness awareness among all age groups, a trash collection competition was introduced in three categories: children, adult women, and adult men.
