SIBU: More than 1,500 people from all walks of life thronged the Lunar Chinese New Year (CNY) Open House hosted by local Member of Parliament, Oscar Ling Chai Yew ‘s service centre held at Rejang Park Commercial Centre here today (Feb 8).
Also present were Ling, Senator Wong Siew Lead and fomer Bukit assembywoman, Irene Chang Oi Ling.
Packs of goodies were distributed to those attendants at the event which was enlivened by entertainment programmes including lion dance, Chinese cultural musical instrument performance and games.
Speaking to the media, Ling was grateful that lot of people came to his CNY Open House.
He hoped that even though this year started with not good news for Sarawak due to floods, it would eventually be better for the rest of the year for Sarawak and Malaysia.

“This year is a challenging year, with lot of uncertainties due to the newly helming of the United States president, Donald Trump. So we don’t know what will happen to the world economy.
“Anyway, we are preparing as a responsible Madani government to face any coming challenges. We are preparing to move forward to push our economy to greater heights for Malaysia,” he said.
On his CNY open house, he said it was aimed to gather the people from various races to come together to celebrate the festive season.
Highlighting that Malaysia is a multi-racial nation, he added that the event was to promote unity and harmony in the community.
