Over 15,000 entries vied for Plaza Merdeka’s lucky draw top prizes

KUCHING: The Plaza Merdeka Shopping Centre’s (Plaza Merdeka) latest lucky draw campaign has recorded an overwhelming response, attracting more than 15,000 valid entries from shoppers across participating outlets.

To be eligible for the lucky draw campaign, shoppers are required to make a minimum purchase of RM199 from any Plaza Merdeka outlets, including food, fashion, and lifestyle stores, accompanied by a valid purchase receipts.

“We had more than 15,000 valid entries, though many were disqualified without receipts. The response shows strong shopper engagement,” said Managing Director, Datuk Steve Ng Thian Yew.

He said this to reporters during the Plaza Merdeka’s Grand Lucky Draw announcement at the Main Atrium, Ground Floor, Plaza Merdeka on Wednesday.

Steve expressed appreciation to shoppers and partners, describing the campaign as highly successful and beneficial to Plaza Merdeka, retailers, and the wider Kuching community.

He said the mall plans to continue the lucky draw initiative in 2026, with an even more exciting prize lineup currently being curated and potentially enhanced.

“The next lucky draw is tentatively targeted to be launched during the Hari Raya festive season.

“The main lucky draw is expected to be held at the end of the year, supported by several mini-draws staged throughout 2026 to sustain shopper interest,” he revealed.

He added that full programme details are expected to be announced by Chinese New Year to capitalise on festive shopping traffic and early participation.

He confirmed that cars will remain headline prizes, including electric vehicles, reflecting Plaza Merdeka’s commitment to sustainability and green mobility initiatives.

“Plaza Merdeka currently features high-speed EV charging stations installed by Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation (SDEC), the first such facility located within Kuching’s city centre.

“The chargers, available at both mall and hotel areas, can power compatible electric vehicles up to 80 per cent capacity in approximately 20 minutes,” he said.

Among the top prize winners, third prize recipient, Paul Johem, won an MSI Cyborg 15 laptop, while Teo Ching Ching claimed an iPhone 17 Pro.

The grand lucky draw prize, an Ora Good Cat electric vehicle from GWM, was won by Wong Ting Kang, drawing applause from shoppers and event attendees.

Steve congratulated all winners and thanked shoppers for their continued support, reaffirming Plaza Merdeka’s commitment to rewarding loyal customers.
