KUCHING: More than 200 extreme sports athletes are set to converge in Kuching for the DBKU International X-Games 2026, featuring multiple disciplines in a high-intensity showcase.

The event, scheduled from Apr 8 to 12 at the Kuching Waterfront, will involve participants from Sarawak and Peninsular Malaysia.

Minister of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said the event has grown steadily over the years.

Abdul Karim speaks on the expansion of the DBKU International X-Games 2026.

“This is not the first time the event is being held, and we have seen encouraging growth.

“We can see how sports like BMX, skateboarding and rollerblading are gaining popularity, not only worldwide but also here in Sarawak,” he told a press conference here today (Mar 31).

He added that this year’s edition will introduce additional elements, including the return of water sports activities such as jet ski events at the Waterfront.

“We want to create a platform for athletes to showcase their skills while promoting an active lifestyle among the youth,” he said.

Hilmy

Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) mayor Datuk Hilmy Othman said participation by athletes from Peninsular Malaysia in previous editions had helped spark greater interest among local youth.

“When we invited athletes from Peninsular Malaysia to showcase their skills, including performing somersaults and twists, it helped attract local youth to take up extreme sports,” he said.

The competition will feature events such as aggressive rollerblading, BMX flatland, BMX freestyle, skateboarding, street basketball and pickleball, alongside public workshops for newcomers.
