SIBU: More than 200 participants joined the Brisk Walk 1.0 Programme organised by the Sibu Anti-Drug Squad in collaboration with the Sibu District National Anti-Drugs Agency (NADA), which took place at Dataran Bulat, Taman Tasik Permai, here today.
The two-kilometre leisurely run was officially launched by Sibu Municipal Council member, Michelle Law.
The event was held in line with the theme ‘Better Prevention: Drug Prevention Shared Responsibility’, which emphasises the importance of the involvement of all parties in combating drug abuse and illicit substances, especially in the district.
Apart from fostering a healthy lifestyle, the programme also served as a platform to raise public awareness on the importance of early prevention.
Among the activities during the event were the handover of the Jalur Gemilang in conjunction with the ‘Minda Keselamatan’ Programme by the National Security Council Sibu Branch; online registration of new members by the Sibu Anti-Drug Squad Committee; the delivery of awareness messages to the community; and a lucky draw session.
The Sibu Anti-Drug Squad is targeting a membership of 5,000 by the end of the year.
Also present were the representative of the Sibu Division Resident Office, Nursyarmila Jerius; Sibu NADA District Head, Azimah Marsid; Acting President of the National Consumer Action Council Sarawak Region, Lucas Lau Sieu Sing; Sibu Anti-Drug Squad Secretary, Gloria Umi Dick, who represented its chairman; Active Squad Coordinator, Nasir Mohammad; Active Squad Deputy Coordinator, Nur Hazwani Yahya; President of the Sibu Iban Social Welfare Association (Teresang Dayak Sarawak), Robinson Lebong; as well as other representatives of government agencies and Sibu Anti-Drug Squad members.
