MIRI: The Scouts Association of Malaysia Sarawak Branch will organise the Marine Education Camp (KPM) 2026 at Piasau Boat Club from June 25 to 28.
The four-day programme is expected to gather over 200 Sea Scouts from Sarawak, Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah, Brunei and Indonesia’s Pramuka movement.
Preparations were strengthened through a courtesy visit to the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) Miri Maritime Zone, where Lt-Cmdr Safri Aza Mustapa welcomed collaboration.
“We are committed to supporting youth maritime education and will assist in delivering the Basic Maritime Safety Module during the camp,” he said.
He added that MMEA would provide instructors, loan life jackets according to requirements and conduct practical sessions on boat handling and watercraft operations.
He noted that participants would also be exposed to ropework techniques aboard vessels and the use of semaphore flag signalling.
The Scout delegation was led by State Scout assistant commissioner (Sea Scouts) Fauziah Pata, accompanied by Capt Haris Bujang, Wilson Afrin and Adnan Matsah.
In a separate engagement, the delegation paid a courtesy visit to the Marine Department Malaysia Sarawak Region, Eastern Division, here.
Assistant director Mohamad Amrun Hafey Ahmadunissah pledged full commitment to the programme, describing it as a meaningful initiative to cultivate maritime awareness.
“We will provide instructors as needed, 30 life jackets, semaphore flag sets and life buoys to ensure activities are conducted safely.”
He added that the department would establish a camp site presence, organise a maritime exhibition and assist in conducting ropework and signalling sessions.
The KPM 2026 aims to enhance practical maritime skills, instil discipline and promote water safety awareness among young participants.
Organisers believe the collaboration reflects a strong strategic partnership between the Scouts and maritime agencies in nurturing responsible, safety-conscious future seafarers.
