KUCHING: The Sarawak Zone Polytechnic and Community College marked a milestone this week, with 2,360 graduates from various disciplines receiving their diplomas and certificates at the joint convocation ceremony.
The joint convocation, held from August 9 to 12 at Politeknik Kuching Sarawak will continue on September 13 at Politeknik Mukah, combining the 33rd Convocation of Politeknik Kuching Sarawak, the 9th Convocation of Politeknik METrO Betong Sarawak, and the Sarawak Community College Convocation 2025.
“We are proud to celebrate not only the academic achievements of our graduates, but also the dedication, resilience, and commitment they have shown throughout their studies,” said Mohamad Nazri Ismail, the director of Politeknik Kuching Sarawak, during his welcome address.
Nazri also highlighted the employability of TVET graduates, noting that the 2024 Graduate Tracer Study recorded over 90 per cent employability rates for both polytechnic and community college graduates in Sarawak.
“This is the result of strong collaboration between our institutions, government agencies, and industry partners,” he said.
Since their inception, the Polytechnics and Community Colleges (POLYCC) in Sarawak have produced 54,276 graduates, with the Sarawak Zone forging 49 industry partnerships as of 2024.
These collaborations have led to numerous accolades, including victories at the National Geomatic/Geoinformatic Students Innovation competition, the Borneo International Innovation Creativity competition, and international robotics and sports events.
“We remain committed to the vision of becoming a premier TVET institution, producing graduates who are ready to meet market demands.
“Our concept of ‘TVET For All’ ensures that technical and vocational education is accessible to every segment of society,” Nazri emphasised.
He urged graduates to view the ceremony not as the end of their academic journey, but as the beginning of a new chapter.
“Let this success be a catalyst for you to step forward and contribute meaningfully to society and the nation.
“Remember to cherish and thank those who have supported you along the way,” he added.
