KUCHING: More than 3,000 Muslims gathered at Masjid Jamek Negeri Sarawak here today as Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg led the Aidiladha thanksgiving ceremony organised by the Sarawak Islamic Council (MIS).

The ceremony began with Abang Johari reciting the intention for the korban ritual before witnessing the slaughter of two sacrificial animals at the mosque compound in Petra Jaya.

A total of eight cows were contributed for this year’s korban programme, with three donated by MIS and five by the Sarawak Government Servants Welfare and Sports Council (MAKSAK).

The Premier later officiated the symbolic meat-cutting ceremony and presented korban meat contributions to 30 recipients comprising asnaf families and Muslim converts from around the Kuching Division.
