KUCHING: Pustaka Negeri Sarawak continues to showcase its commitment to nurturing a knowledge-driven society by taking part in the prestigious Kuala Lumpur International Book Fair (PBAKL) 2025, which was held at the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC) recently.

Running from May 23 to June 1, the event attracted more than 4,000 visitors to the Pustaka Negeri Sarawak booth, making it one of the notable crowd-pullers among participating exhibitors.

This year’s participation focused on strengthening collaborative efforts and promoting Sarawakian literature on a national platform.

In a strategic move, Pustaka Negeri Sarawak partnered with i-CATS University College, creating a strong synergy to further promote scholarly publications and local creative works.

“This collaboration not only highlights the importance of academic networking but also reflects our shared mission to empower communities through quality reading materials and knowledge-sharing platforms,” said a press statement from Pustaka Negeri Sarawak on Thursday.

“It is our belief that these initiatives help to enrich the literary landscape and encourage Malaysians to value local authorship,” it added.

The booth offered a variety of engaging programmes, including Customer Day, on-site membership registrations, and a special quiz held in conjunction with the 25th anniversary of Pustaka Negeri Sarawak’s founding.

Visitors also had the chance to browse and purchase new titles published by Pustaka, meet local authors in Meet & Greet sessions, and participate in interactive activities designed to spark interest in reading.

A strong Sarawakian presence was felt through a special segment dedicated to local writers, featuring literary talks and book signings.

Renowned authors such as Daut Bujang, Clement Langet Sabang, Abang Median Abang Said, Cassandra Eva Lau, SNS Jong Chian Lai, and others took part in enriching dialogues with readers.

Their participation added colours to the event and created meaningful connections between authors and audiences.

Adding to the lively atmosphere were well-known personalities DJ Sonic and actress-host, Sherry Alhadad, who moderated several sessions with flair and humour, drawing interest from a wider crowd.

Pustaka Negeri Sarawak’s involvement in PBAKL 2025 reaffirms its role as a vital player in promoting reading culture and celebrating literary contributions from East Malaysia.

“As a continuation of these efforts, the public is invited to the Sarawak Book Fair 2025, scheduled to take place from Sep 27 to Oct 5 at The Hills, Kuching.

“The event promises a wide range of literary programmes and activities for all ages,” it said.
