Over 5,000 attend ‘Majlis Rahmah Mesra Kasih’

KUCHING: More than 5,000 people from all walks of life attended the ‘Majlis Rahmah Mesra Kasih’ event organised by the Federal Women, Family and Community Development Ministry at Wisma SABATI today.

Its Minister, Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri, said this is a gathering of people, especially the targeted community who is under the ministry’s provision.

“Today, we are grateful to have brought the targeted communities here who are under the ministry’s provision.

“As you can see, there are a lot of them and these communities are the ones that we are focusing to take care of,” said Nancy during a press conference at Wisma SABATI.

Apart from that, Nancy said the occasion this time was attended by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

“We are also fortunate enough to have the Prime Minister as well as our Premier to attend this event which is really grateful.

“Earlier this morning, our Head of State, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, has attended the event as well,” added Nancy.

Earlier in the afternoon, Anwar and Abang Johari arrived together in a motorcade at around 1.40 pm, together with delegation from the Sarawak government.

Both leaders were given a warm welcome from guests attending the event, and Anwar even shook hands with the children.

Anwar, Abang Johari and Nancy, together with Sarawak officials and staff ministry, took a group photo before heading into the dining hall.

Among the VIPs were the three Deputy Premiers, Datuk Amar Awang Tengal Ali Hasan, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas and Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian, ministers and deputy ministers of the Sarawak government.

Live music performances were performed to entertain guests while dining traditional delicacies such as lemang, beef rendang, chicken curry and more.

Before departing from the venue, Anwar took another round to meet up with the people as well as food vendors.

There was a line of people waiting to meet and shake hands with the Prime Minister as it is a once-in-a-lifetime moment for them.

Both Anwar and Abang Johari departed the venue at around 2.30 pm.
