A total of 55,184 recipients in Sarawak have received various forms of welfare assistance amounting to RM98.8 million as of May 2025
Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah among them, 1,323 recipients were from the Bukit Begunan constituency, receiving a combined total of RM622,150.
“Meanwhile, a total of 45,240 low-income individuals in Sarawak have received federal monthly aid based on the National Poverty Line Income (PGK) in the first four months of the year.

“Additionally, 9,944 low-income individuals benefited from the State General Assistance, which is based on the PGK of RM990,” she said.
She said this during the question-and-answer session at the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting today (May 20).
Fatimah was responding to a question by Datuk Mong Dagang (GPS–Bukit Begunan) on the number of poor individuals currently receiving monthly aid through the Sarawak Social Welfare Department (JKMS).
Responding to a supplementary question on the Ministry’s efforts to help productive welfare recipients increase their income, Fatimah said her Ministry — via JKMS — provides the Wellbest Entrepreneur Grant, offering up to RM5,000 per recipient.
“This is a one-off grant that is specialised for productive monthly welfare aid recipients or households as a means to enable them to expand their business.
“The grant is also aimed to increase their respective monthly income that consequently be removed from the list of the monthly aid recipients,” she said.
