Over 800 affected by flood in Baram

MIRI: More than 800 residents from Long Panai, Rumah Asam Sungai Pedada and Asam Paya Hilir in Baram here were hit by floods following the rise in water levels coming from upstream areas yesterday.

According to a spokesman for the Miri Division Disaster Movement Room, flood victims were estimated to consist of 123 longhouses in Long Panai and 13 houses of Asam Paya Hilir in Sungai Pedada.

Meanwhile, other areas that were reported to have been affected by floods include Long Jegan, Long Teran Kanan A, Long Teran Kiri Band Long Bemang.

The water levels are reported to be rising in all areas, but further details on the number of residents involved have not been available for the past four hours as some areas are difficult to reach.

The water level in the Long Panai area reportedly reached 3.5 feet as of 4pm yesterday while, Long Jegan and Long Teran Kanan A water of one foot deep entered the house. However, water in the Long Loyang area has gradually receded while Long Atip and Long Wat, it has completely receded.
