KUCHING: The Sarawak-level Maulidur Rasul parade and celebration served as a meaningful platform for reflection, unity, and renewed commitment to Islamic values and the advancement of the Muslim community in the state.

Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department of Sarawak (Project Coordinator for Regional Development Agencies, Kuching North City Hall, and Islamic Affairs) Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi said the celebration was a moment for individuals to reflect on their contributions to religion, society, and the nation.

“The celebration of Maulidur Rasul is not merely an annual event, but a manifestation of our love for Prophet Muhammad SAW and a platform to strengthen Muslim identity by emulating his noble character, wise leadership, and encompassing compassion.

“Let us strengthen our roles as knowledgeable, virtuous, and practicing servants of Allah and empower the identity of the Muslim ummah, foster unity, and strengthen our resolve to build a glorious ummah that achieves goodness both in this world and the hereafter.

“Let’s contribute our energy, ideas, and spirit towards a progressive and prosperous Sarawak,” he said in his speech during the event held at Padang Merdeka here yesterday (Sept 6).

This year’s celebration also marks the 70th anniversary of the Sarawak Islamic Council (MIS), which was officially established in 1955.

Dr Abdul Rahman highlighted MIS’s ongoing role in empowering the Muslim ummah and ensuring a progressive, authoritative, and shariah-compliant Islamic administration in the state.

“In conjunction with this 70th anniversary, various initiatives have been planned as a sign of appreciation and reflection on MIS’s achievements, including the organisation of the Maulidur Rasul celebration.

“As the body responsible for Islamic affairs in Sarawak, MIS will continue to reinforce its role and responsibilities to ensure the sustainability of a progressive, authoritative, and shariah-compliant Islamic administration,” he said.

He also expressed his appreciation to the Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg for his continuous support of Islamic development in Sarawak.

“On behalf of the MIS and its affiliated agencies, I would also like to record our highest appreciation to the Resident’s Office of the Kuching Division, as well as all government and private agencies, NGOs, educational institutions, and individuals who have provided their cooperation and support to ensure the success of today’s celebration.

“Truly, your commitment and contributions are deeply appreciated and have greatly contributed to the success of this programme,” he said.

The event saw the participation of 9,600 individuals from 209 contingents representing various sectors, including uniformed bodies, government departments, statutory bodies, private agencies, mosques and suraus, village committees, associations, clubs, educational institutions, hadrah groups, and schools.
