LUNDU: Over RM130.2 million has been disbursed to more than 45,800 monthly aid recipients in Sarawak as of June 2025.

Women, Family and Community Development (KPWKM) Minister, Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri, said the amount is part of the RM209.7 million allocation channelled to the Sarawak Social Welfare Department (JKMS) this year under the ministry.

“This shows how serious and committed we are to the development of women, families and communities in Sarawak,” she said during the briefing on the services of key agencies under the ministry at Dewan Salcra Bajo Lundu here today.

Nancy, who is also the Santubong Member of Parliament, added that 48 cases also benefited from the one-off Tabung Bantuan Segera assistance, with RM13,455 spent so far this year.

As of June, she said Sarawak recorded 56,491 registered persons with disabilities (PWD), while 2,015 trainees are actively participating in community rehabilitation programmes.

To support the elderly, 20 Senior Citizens Activity Centres (PAWE) have been established statewide, with more than 6,400 active members.

Additionally, she said the National Population and Family Development Board (LPPKN) Sarawak received RM1.3 million to implement family health programmes this year.

With that, she said over 1,700 women have benefited from subsidised mammogram screenings, while more than 1,500 underwent cervical cancer screening.

“We also have programmes to help men improve their fertility, as society often blames women, but men can also be infertile,” she added.

Nancy also called on community leaders and all those present to help spread awareness of the available assistance to their local communities.

“Make sure more eligible individuals, especially the PWD and senior citizens, register with us to receive these benefits,” she said.

She reminded them that they are not only community leaders but also the hope of the people they serve, urging them to provide the best service and remain attentive to the needs of the rakyat.
