BAU: A total of RM3,620,444 in Minor Rural Project (MRP) funds has been disbursed to eligible recipients across Sarawak for 2025, with over RM1.009 million distributed on Monday (June 30) alone during a special presentation ceremony.

Deputy Minister for Transport and Tasik Biru assemblyman Datuk Henry Harry Jinep expressed satisfaction with the responsible use of the allocations so far.

“I believe the MRP will be used more quickly, and they have been using it with great prudence and thriftiness.”

Henry said this after handing over a special project fund for the Tasik Biru constituency at the Bau District Office Complex on Monday.

He said that some entities have received their second or even third round of allocations.

He also praised the commitment of local organisations and community leaders in ensuring the funds are channeled to meaningful and impactful activities.

“From minor infrastructure repairs to community health programs, the MRP continues to play a vital role in improving the well-being of Sarawakians, particularly in rural areas.”

He also highlighted the advantage of being able to act faster than government agencies when responding to urgent community needs.

“Even small matters like fixing damaged roads, collapsed land, or leaking school ceilings we attend to them immediately through the MRP. That’s the beauty of being a representative with access to this fund.”

He noted that although he represents the Tasik Biru constituency, his responsibilities and outreach often extend beyond it.

“Various NGOs, schools and healthcare initiatives from across the state have benefited from the fund, with priority given to Sarawak-based programmes to ensure the impact remains within the state.

“There are also times when students from outside Sarawak request MRP support for programmes in Peninsular Malaysia. But we have to ensure that the benefits go back to our people here in Sarawak. That is only fair.”

Henry added that the MRP remains a crucial tool for elected representatives to assist communities efficiently, adding that the Sarawak government under Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) continues to empower representatives to uplift rural development.
