KUCHING: Sarawak women’s cricket team departed for Sri Lanka on July 5 for an exposure tour to focus on sharpening the squad ahead of the 2026 Malaysia Games (SUKMA).
The overseas programme will see the team undergo intensive training while taking on local Sri Lankan sides in a series of friendly matches, providing valuable international exposure and experience in different playing conditions.
The Sarawak Cricket Association (SCA) said the tour is designed to strengthen the players’ technical skills, tactical awareness, physical conditioning, and overall match readiness as preparations for SUKMA gather pace.
Besides competitive matches, the programme is also expected to strengthen team cohesion and build confidence as the squad continues its build-up to the national multi-sport Games.
According to the association, exposure to overseas competition will allow the players to test themselves against different styles of play while adapting to unfamiliar conditions, an important aspect of their long-term development.
“We wish our Sarawak Women’s SUKMA team all the best for a productive and successful tour.
“May this experience contribute significantly to their development and pave the way for a syrong performance at the upcoming SUKMA Games,” the association said in a social media post recently.
