MIRI: Pickleball enthusiasts from across Miri are gearing up for a spirited day of sport and community giving as the MRC (Miri) Charity Pickleball Game 2025 gets underway this Sunday (Aug 10).

The event will take place from 8 am to 5 pm at Aster Hall, Malaysian Red Crescent (MRC) Miri Branch, and promises a full day of friendly competition- all in aid of a worthy cause.

Jointly organised by Northern Seahorse Pickleball Club and Citi Chaser Pickleball Club, the charity tournament is being held to raise funds and awareness for Miri MRC’s ongoing humanitarian work.

The event is also a celebration of the growing local pickleball scene — a sport that continues to gain traction among Malaysians for its accessibility and inclusive spirit.

A total of 40 players — 20 men and 20 women — will take to the court in a mixed doubles format.

True to the community feel of the event, players will be paired up through a ‘Lucky Pick’ draw just before play begins- an approach designed to foster camaraderie and encourage fun over formality.

“We’re absolutely delighted to be hosting this charity pickleball game,” said Raymond Guan Zhen Wee, president of the Northern Seahorse Pickleball Club.

“It’s a fantastic opportunity for players to come together for a good cause. Our aim is to promote healthy living through sport while also giving back to the community that supports us.”

The event has been months in the making, with volunteers from Citi Chaser Pickleball Club playing a pivotal role behind the scenes.

Their efforts have helped ensure the tournament is not only well-organised but also welcoming to all, from first-time spectators to seasoned supporters of MRC Miri’s charitable mission.

Members of the public are encouraged to attend, enjoy the matches, and lend their support- either by cheering on the players or making a donation on the day.

The atmosphere is expected to be vibrant, with plenty of action on court and a strong sense of community spirit throughout.
