Pahang royal family celebrates local heritage at ‘Seri Gedong Songket’

GEDONG: His Royal Highness the Sultan of Pahang, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, and Her Royal Highness Tengku Ampuan Pahang, Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah, paid a royal visit to Seri Gedong Songket here today.

Accompanying the royal couple were their son, Tengku Arif Bendahara Tengku Muhammad Iskandar Ri’ayatuddin Shah, and his wife, Tengku Natasya Puteri Tengku Adnan.

Their Royal Highnesses arrived at 11:00 am and were warmly received by the Sarawak State Secretary, Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki; the Premier’s daughter, Dayang Norjihan; and state leaders.

Their arrival drew great attention from locals as Their Royal Highnesses personally drove to the venue, sparking excitement and admiration among the people who had gathered in anticipation.

During the visit, Their Royal Highnesses also witnessed demonstrations and exhibitions featuring songket weaving, bag plaiting, keringkam embroidery, and various other local handicrafts.

A total of 30 local weavers from Gedong showcased their skills and creations to Their Majesties with deep respect and gratitude for the royal visit.

Following the visit to Seri Gedong Songket , Al-Sultan Abdullah and Tengku Ampuan Tunku Azizah, together with their entourage, proceeded to a royal luncheon at Dewan Datuk Patinggi Ali.

Their arrival at the luncheon was celebrated with full traditional ceremony and courtesy, accompanied by traditional music that added colour to the event.

The event also featured cultural performances including tarian rampaian, ngajat Iban and gendang pampat, silat demonstrations, and tarian inang .

The cordial gathering reflected the close bond between the royal institution and the people, symbolising Their Majesties’ affection and concern for the preservation of cultural heritage and appreciation of local culinary uniqueness.

Also present were Pahang Menteri Besar, Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail, and his wife, Datin Seri Diraja Hajah Burhah Mohamad.

Among those in attendance were Minister for Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development, Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah; Deputy Minister of Energy and Environmental Sustainability, Datuk Dr Hazland Abang Hipni; Deputy Minister of Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development, Datuk Mohammad Razi Sitam; Batang Sadong Member of Parliament, Rodiyah Sapiee; and others.
