KUCHING: Their Royal Highnesses, the Sultan of Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah and the Tengku Ampuan of Pahang, Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah, were reunited with their adopted daughter, Missclyen Roland, on the first day of their official four-day visit to Sarawak.

The reunion took place at Commons Café, The Old Court House, Jalan Tun Haji Openg, where Their Royal Highnesses met Missclyen and her family – two years after their first encounter during the ‘Kembara Kenali Borneo’ tour in 2023.

The heartwarming meeting, shared on the ‘Kesultanan Pahang’ Facebook page, touched many Malaysians who praised the royal couple for their kindness and genuine empathy towards the little girl and her family.

During the reunion, Their Royal Highnesses were seen smiling warmly as they greeted Missclyen and her parents, Theresa Gunting and Roland, expressing joy at seeing how much she had grown and progressed under their care.

Missclyen, from Bintulu, was born with congenital generalised hypertrichosis, a rare condition that causes excessive hair growth on the face and body, often referred to as ‘Werewolf Syndrome’.

The young girl first captured the royal couple’s hearts when they met her at Masjid Al-Falah, Kampung Penan Muslim Batu 10, Bintulu-Miri, on September 10, 2023.

Deeply moved by her condition and cheerful nature, Tunku Azizah later expressed her wish to adopt Missclyen.

In a letter dated October 10, 2023, Tunku Azizah, who was then Raja Permaisuri Agong, conveyed her intention to personally support the child’s education and medical care.

Since then, the royal couple has ensured that Missclyen continues to receive proper treatment and schooling, demonstrating their deep compassion and ongoing concern for her well-being.
