ISTANBUL: Arab nations on Saturday condemned Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s suggestion to establish a Palestinian state in Saudi Arabia, calling it a violation of Saudi sovereignty and international law.

The Palestinian Foreign Ministry condemned the proposal as “racist and anti-peace,” expressing full support for Saudi Arabia and urging the international community to denounce Netanyahu’s remarks.

Hussein Al-Sheikh (pic)of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) called Netanyahu’s comments a breach of international law, reaffirming that “The State of Palestine will only be on Palestinian land.”

Egypt, the UAE, and Sudan also rejected Netanyahu’s statements. Egypt’s Foreign Ministry said the remarks threaten Saudi security, emphasising that Saudi stability is vital to Egypt and the broader Arab world. The UAE condemned any attempt to infringe on Palestinian rights, reaffirming its unwavering commitment to a two-state solution.

The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) labelled the remarks “racist” and part of Israel’s ongoing denial of Palestinian rights. It called the proposal a violation of international law and an act of ethnic cleansing.

Netanyahu had suggested Palestinians could establish a state in Saudi Arabia, dismissing their right to self-determination.

The Saudi Foreign Ministry rejected the idea, reiterating that normalization with Israel hinges on the establishment of a Palestinian state, a stance Netanyahu continues to disregard.

The comments were made while Netanyahu was in Washington meeting with US President Donald Trump. – BERNAMA
