SIBU: The improved connectivity brought about by the Pan Borneo Highway has made a marked difference for international teams participating in the Sibu International Powerboat Race (SIPBR) 2025, particularly those from neighbouring Brunei Darussalam.
Raja Kerbau Gemilang Racing Team coordinator Azman Amran said the highway has significantly shortened travel time between Miri and Sibu, making participation more convenient and accessible.

“Before the Pan Borneo Highway, travelling from Miri to Sibu could take us up to 12 hours at times. But now, Alhamdulillah, the journey takes only about five to six hours,” he told reporters at the Li Hua Waterfront here today.
While the highway has eased logistics, Azman noted that cross-border documentation remains a challenge when transporting powerboats and related equipment.
“However, this issue is usually resolved with an official invitation letter from the organisers,” he added.
Azman said the Bruneian team has long been a regular at Sarawak’s powerboat events and looks forward to this year’s competition.
“We have been competing in Sarawak for many years. This year’s competition is certainly tough, as there are many strong contenders from Sarawak,” he said.
“But if it is meant to be, it will be. We’re here to race, and we do so with good sportsmanship.”
The SIPBR 2025 runs from Apr 25 to 27 at the Rajang River in Sibu.
