KUCHING: More than 70 students from the Pantai Damai constituency were celebrated in a programme organised by Biro Pendidikan Pantai Damai to recognise their academic achievements and encourage further studies to the highest level.
The handover of the education initiative, held at the Pantai Damai Community Service Centre today gathered students who recently excelled in public examinations, earned offers to universities and colleges across Sarawak and Malaysia, and even some who have completed master’s and doctoral degrees.
Pantai Damai Assemblyman, Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi, said the programme is part of ongoing efforts to motivate young people to pursue education without limits.
“Education is the key to securing a better future. I urge all our students to stay focused and keep striving until they reach the highest level, whether diploma, degree, master’s or PhD,” he said when presenting education incentives to the successful students.
He said this in his speech at the presentation of incentives to IPT students in Pantai Damai Constituency at Pusat Khidmat Pantai Damai office.
Dr Abdul Rahman, who is also Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Coordination of Projects for Regional Development Agencies, DBKU and Islamic Affairs) praised parents, teachers and community leaders for their commitment, noting that their collective support has consistently raised the constituency’s education benchmark.
He highlighted that the community’s goal is for every household to have at least one graduate, reflecting the belief that education uplifts entire families.
The event also saw recognition for outstanding Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) and Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM) performers, as well as those admitted to institutions such as IPTA and IPTS.
He also reminded students to remain disciplined during their years in higher education, avoid negative campus influences, and persevere through challenges.
“Your time at university may be three to five years, or even longer for postgraduate studies, but it will secure a lifetime of opportunities,” he added, expressing hope that the students will return to contribute their knowledge and skills to Sarawak’s development.
