KUCHING: Sarawak para powerlifting head coach Mohamad Shahibullah Ambi has confirmed that the final list of athletes representing the state at the 2026 Para Malaysia Games (SUKMA) in Selangor has yet to be finalised.
He said the current training camp consists of 16 athletes – 10 men and six women – but final selections will depend on each athlete’s current form and performance levels.
“We currently have 16 athletes in training,” he said.
“However, the final list of those who will represent Sarawak at the 2026 Para Sukma in Selangor has not been decided yet.”
Shahibullah added that the final number of athletes will also depend on the competition format, which will be announced by the organisers at a later date.
“According to plan, the final selection process will begin next year.
“We will also review if there are any additional lifting categories or changes before making the final decision,” he said.
He further hinted that intensive preparations and performance evaluations will be ramped up next year to ensure Sarawak fields its best lineup in the mission to maintain its strong reputation at Para SUKMA.
