Para swimmers receive wheelchairs ahead of Para SUKMA

KUCHING: Sarawak’s para swimming squad have received a timely boost ahead of the upcoming Para SUKMA in Selangor after several athletes were presented with wheelchairs to assist in their training and preparations.

The wheelchairs were handed over during a programme at the Sarawak Youth and Sports Complex Aquatic Excellence Centre here officiated by Sarawak Para Swimming Association president Sarini @ Syarbini Kedri, who is also the state team’s head coach.

Sarini said the wheelchairs were contributed by Lingga assemblywoman Dayang Noorazah Awang Sohor, who is also the patron of the Sarawak Para Swimming Association.

He explained that the equipment will help improve mobility and training convenience for athletes as they prepare for upcoming competitions, including the National Circuit and the Para SUKMA in Selangor scheduled for Sept.

According to Sarini, the state para swimmers have been undergoing continuous training since Jan last year to ensure they remain in peak condition ahead of the Games.

Among the athletes who received the wheelchairs were Fattah Abdullah, Rapelson Richard Hamit and Hasrooy Abu Bakar.

The programme was also attended by coach Imran Nawawi and assistant coach Mohammad Ali Seman.
