ROBAN: Kalaka assemblyman Mohamad Duri has stressed the need for parents to be vigilant and provide guidance to their children, particularly after circumcision.
“While circumcision itself does not signify puberty, in rural areas, it is often seen as the initiation into masculinity, marking a child’s transition into adulthood.”
Speaking at the Mass Circumcision Programme organised by the Village Development and Safety Committee (JKKK) of Kampung Melayu Roban in collaboration with the Kalaka Assemblyman Service Centre, Mohamad pointed out the importance of parental supervision during this critical phase.
“Children, after circumcision, may perceive themselves as adults and feel free to explore new things.
“This can be quite dangerous, making the responsibility of parents to guide their children, particularly in matters of religion, crucial to prevent them from being easily influenced by negative social behaviours,” he said on Monday (Feb 19).
He urged parents to pay attention to their children’s friendships, as peer influence plays a significant role in shaping behaviour.
He stressed the goal of raising responsible individuals who can contribute positively to family, community, state, and country.
During the programme, 33 children from the surrounding area participated. Mohamad expressed his commitment to supporting such initiatives, even with work commitments abroad.
He noted the positive impact of the circumcision programme in not only providing a religious and cultural experience but also easing the financial burden for parents.
Kampung Melayu headman Roban Ali Nusi expressed gratitude to Mohamad for his support in making the programme successful for the first time.
Mohamad was represented by Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu, Kalaka Branch secretary Gapor Ahmad.
