Parenting Teenagers Course to be held next month

KUCHING: A Parenting Teenagers Course (TPC) by  Sarawak Regional co-ordinators for The Marriage Parenting Courses under Alpha Malaysia Sarawak Bhd will be held for the first time next month.

The course was agreed and provided subsidy by Minister of Welfare, Women and Community Wellbeing Datuk Hajah Fatimah Abdullah and partially sponsored by State Women and Family Department.

The Parenting Teenagers Course is developed by Nicky & Sila Lee from London, co-authors of The Marriage Book, The Parenting Book and The Marriage Course .

They are married for 40 years and have four children and three grandchildren. The course was first started in London in 1977 and the material  was published in 2011.

Drawing on their own experience of bringing up four children and having talked to thousands of parents over the years on their parenting courses, Nicky and Sila bring fresh insights and time-tested values on the task of parenting. 

Though this course is developed based on Christian principles, but it has been widely accepted by parents of all beliefs as it carries universally accepted moral values. It has benefitted many people all around the world.

The Parenting Teenagers Course is designed for those parenting children aged eleven to eighteen, whether they consider themselves to have strong parenting skills or are struggling, and whether they are parenting as a couple, as a single parent or as a step-parent or grandparents, teachers, or carers of these children.

Guests can come alone or as a couple. The practical tools of the course are applicable to everyone who has a responsibility for a child in this age group.

The aim of The Parenting Teenagers Course is to help to strengthen their relationship with their teenagers and build healthy families that last a lifetime.

This course is made up of five weekly sessions lasting two-and –a-half hours. The sixth week will be The Graduation Party.

The course covers, Keeping The End In Mind, Meeting Our Teenagers’ Needs, Setting Boundaries, Developing Emotional Health, Helping Them Make Good Choices and The Parenting Teenagers Course Graduation Party.

Talks by Nicky and Sila Lee  will be played on DVD.The course will be conducted in a relaxing atmosphere.

During each session there are breaks in the talks for small group discussions.

This will give the guests an opportunity to discuss the issues that have been raised. The facilitators will guide and facilitate group discussions to enable cross learning.

It will be an enriching and enlightening time for the participants.

The upcoming two TPTC courses are The Parenting Teenagers Course in English will start on 15 April 2017, for five Saturday afternoons from 2.00pm to 4.30pm and The Parenting Teenagers Course in Chinese will start on 16 April 2017, for five Sunday afternoons from 2pm to 4.30pm.

There will be a combined Graduation Party on 20 May 2017 at 2pm

The venue for the course will be at Harbour View Hotel with fee of RM 20 per person for the whole course.
