SERIAN: The role of parents is as crucial as that of teachers in shaping the education of their children, especially during the formative years before formal schooling.

Tebedu assemblyman Dr Simon Sinang Bada said children’s education is primarily the responsibility of their teachers once they are in school, while parents are tasked with nurturing, guiding and disciplining their children at home.

“This dynamic is essential to ensure that children’s educational development not only occurs during school hours but also continues at home,” he said.

He said this in his speech at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Tebakang’s Parent-Teacher Association (PIBG) Annual General Meeting (AGM) yesterday (May 11).

During the programme, he allocated special funds to two secondary schools and 23 primary schools in the Tebedu area, totalling RM260,000.

He expressed his willingness to assist SMK Tebakang in the future if needed.

Also present were SMK Tebakang Principal Benjamin Spencer Latif, Serian District Education Officer Jennifer George and Tebedu District Officer Angela Thomas.
