MIRI: Senadin assemblyman Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin has called on parents to prioritise their children’s education, stressing the importance of skills training for those interested in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).

He highlighted that skilled labour is in high demand and offers substantial financial rewards.

Speaking at the Borneo Evangelical Mission (BEM) Kampung Muhibbah’s parents’ day dinner gathering last night (June 8), Lee pointed out the crucial role of technical skills in boosting Sarawak’s workforce productivity.

He noted that the Sarawak Government, under the leadership of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), is dedicated to enhancing education and technical skills.

“Encouraging our children to pursue skills training can lead to high-paying jobs,” Lee stated. “A skilled workforce will significantly elevate our productivity and economic growth.”

The Transport Minister also urged Sarawakians to strengthen their unity as the region advances towards becoming a high-income area.

He stressed the importance of maintaining harmony and mutual respect within the community.

“Sarawakians should unite to make Sarawak a high-income region,” Lee said.

“There may be some who envy our harmony, but we must stay united to continue our progress.”

He also noted the establishment of the Unit for Other Religions (Unifor) as a testament to the state government’s efforts to support religious diversity.

“The government of Sarawak is fair to all religions in the state.

“We should respect this diversity and not be swayed by parties trying to create tension,” he said.

During the event at a restaurant in Permyjaya, Lee presented a RM100,000 grant from Unifor to the BEM Kampung Muhibbah church. Additionally, he handed over a RM10,000 grant from his Minor Rural Project (MRP) allocation to support the church’s activities.
