Parolee caught 20 days after fleeing supervised release

SARATOK: A licensed prisoner who disappeared after violating the terms of his release under the Licensed Prisoner Release Programme (PBSL), has been recaptured by police.

Saratok police chief DSP Mathew Manggie confirmed that the prisoner from Sri Aman central prison, was re-arrested last Saturday (Jun 28).

The 30-year-old, who had been placed at a house along Jalan Haji Puteh Ellias under the PBSL order from May 26 to Jul 15, was previously reported to have absconded during his supervised release.

He went missing on Jun 8. His disappearance was in violation of Section 43(1) of the Prisons Act 1995, which requires licensed prisoner to remain at and not leave their designated residence.

Mathew thanked the public who came forward with information and supported the police throughout the search.

“Your cooperation helped safeguard the community and contributed to the successful recapture of the inmate,” he said.

On behalf of the Saratok district police headquarters (IPD), he also acknowledged the public’s continued commitment to law enforcement and community safety.
