KUCHING: Sarawak’s commitment to a greener and more inclusive future rests on the strength of partnerships between government, industry, communities and youth, says Minister for Utility and Telecommunication, Datuk Seri Julaihi Narawi.
Speaking at the Gala Dinner of the ‘Sustainability & Renewable Energy Forum’ (SAREF) 4.0 at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) on Wednesday night, he noted that meaningful collaboration transforms innovation into impact and vision into reality.
“This year’s theme, ‘Partnership for Our Goals: Sustainable Growth and Prosperity for the Region’, reflects this commitment, fostering dialogues that address the complex challenges of advancing a green future,” he said.
Julaihi highlighted that SAREF was envisioned as a gathering of leaders and change-makers, uniting those championing sustainability to exchange knowledge, spark innovation, and deepen cooperation.
He stressed that the focus of such efforts must always remain on people and communities.
“The broader discussion on energy transition is incomplete without recognising the culture, traditions, and heritage that define who we are,” he added.
“Preserving our values, stories, and livelihood is vital as we progress towards a future that is not just clean and sustainable, but inclusive and rooted in our identity.”
Julaihi said he was proud that SAREF created spaces that elevate community voices, such as the Community Market showcasing local entrepreneurs and artisans, the Youth Pavilion led by young innovators, and the Asean Energy Youth Awards celebrating creativity across the region.
He added that the Sarawak Government is committed to a sustainable energy future that leaves no one behind, founded on shared growth, respect for diversity and equity, and active community participation in driving change.
Beyond policy discussions, Julaihi emphasised that the gala dinner was dedicated to showcasing Sarawak’s rich cultural heritage through food, music and performances, including the musical ‘Dreamweaver’, a vibrant tribute to Sarawak’s traditions.
“Tonight reminds us of our most powerful resource, the strength of partnerships and collaboration, which begins in our communities,” he said.
