KUCHING: Newly-elected Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) vice president Datuk Ibrahim Baki has pledged to ensure its continued relevance in Sarawak’s political landscape.
Ibrahim, who has been with PBB for nearly four decades, highlighted the need for rejuvenation to adapt to changing times while maintaining PBB’s grassroots foundation.
“Yesterday, we heard the keynote speech from the party president, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg emphasising that unity must always be prioritised.
“Under the leadership of Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud, Pehin Sri Adenan Satem and now our Premier, unity in PBB has always been strong.
“However, if you look at his speech, he mentioned that at certain times, unity may wane,” he told the media at the PBB 16th Triennial General Meeting (TGM) at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) on Sunday (Feb 16).
“That is why we must maintain and preserve it while ensuring that PBB continues to be relevant. We need to adapt to changes.
“That is why people like me step in — to bring rejuvenation to the party, and we need everyone’s involvement,” he added
Ibrahim who is Satok assemblyman, emphasised the importance of unity within the party and vowed to contribute his experience in law, corporate affairs and economics to further its mission.
“I am honoured and humbled to accept the position of PBB vice president.
“My commitment is to continue supporting the party. First, to support the party leadership, and second, to support social development to ensure the stability of PBB, especially to keep PBB relevant through the ages,” he said.
He said winning is not about individual achievement but collective responsibility.
“Everyone must contribute to the party’s strength. My role now comes with greater responsibility, but it is about working together to sustain and enhance PBB’s position,” he added.
Commenting on the diversity among the newly elected vice presidents, Ibrahim acknowledged the strengths of his fellow leaders, Datuk Seri Julaihi Narawi, Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee, and Datuk Len Talif Salleh, saying that their collective experience would reinforce PBB’s role in serving the people.
“PBB has always delivered on the people’s wishes. With this composition and the support of all Supreme Council members from various backgrounds, we have a very comprehensive team, led by the Premier.
“God willing, it will be a strong and effective leadership,” said Ibrahim.
