KUCHING: The Power Aquatics Swimming Club (PASC) has enjoyed a successful opening day at the 51st Sarawak Age Group Swimming Championship, with their swimmers making a notable impact at the event held today (Feb 7).
Coach Voon, representing the Kota Samarahan Swimming Association, credited the club’s rigorous training programme for their swimmers’ success.
The athletes adhere to a demanding schedule, which includes two training sessions per day — starting at 4.30 am and resuming from 6 pm to 9 pm.
With nine sessions each week, the swimmers’ dedication and commitment are clearly paying off.
“Our swimmers have trained hard, and their results speak for themselves.
“We have focused heavily on endurance, particularly for long-distance events such as the 1,500m, 800m, and 200m,” Voon told Sarawak Tribune yesterday.
Looking ahead, Coach Voon noted that the team are being prepared for even bigger challenges, with an eye on future competitions, including next year’s SUKMA Games and the 2027 SEA Games.
“Our focus in the future is to prepare them for these larger-scale events,” he added.
In addition to the swimmers’ dedication, Coach Voon highlighted the importance of Kuching’s state-of-the-art swimming facilities in fostering success.
He contrasted this with the challenges faced by other regions, noting that both Sibu and Miri have struggled with limited access to training pools due to either lack of facilities or on-going renovations.
“We are fortunate to have multiple high-quality swimming pools in Kuching, which provide invaluable opportunities for training.
“Unlike Sibu, they raised a problem where they don’t have pool to train because it is undergoing renovation.
“The same for Miri as well, who are facing the same problem so they don’t have a proper place to train,” he said.
The ongoing 51st Sarawak Age Group Swimming Championship, taking place at the Pandelela Rinong Aquatic Centre from Feb 7 to 9, has seen competitors from six divisions on day one of the three-day event.
The performances by PASC swimmers reflect the strength of their preparation and the growing prominence of the club within the region.
