Passenger dies, driver survives after car plunges into ravine

SIMUNJAN: A local man died on the spot after the car he was travelling in, skidded off the road and plunged into a ravine near Kampung Batu Kepit, Bukit Punda yesterday (June 1).

The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said firefighters from Simunjan station were dispatched to the scene following a distress call at 6.49 pm.

Upon arrival, they discovered a Perodua Kenari that had fallen about 50 metres down a ravine from the road.

The passenger, identified as 53-year-old Richman Nyawan, was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.

His body was recovered from the ravine using a stretcher before it was handed over to police for transportation to the hospital.

Meanwhile, the 53-year-old driver escaped the accident unharmed.
